News Groups and Online Conferencing !

News Groups and Online Conferencing !

News Groups-  a news group is, at times, often confused with a blog. It is a discussion group on a specific topic that is maintained on a computer network. i,e the Internet.

Online Conferencing-  online conferencing can also be known as web conferencing. It is when you have a videoconferencing session via the Internet, and you can interact with other participants who are also using web conferencing applications.

  • Both of these forms of communication are extremely useful in the business world as well as the normal world of technology. By using things such as news groups and online conferencing to communicate, people can view 'live' the other persons videos and or conferences. This becomes especially efficient in the office when a meeting needs to take place in two different places at once.

Chat and Instant Messaging !

Chat and Instant Messaging

Chat - Online chat may refer to any kind of communication over the Internet, that offers a real-time direct transmission of text-based messages from sender to receiver, hence the delay for visual access to the sent message shall not hamper the flow of communications in any of the directions. Online chat may address point-to-point communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers and voice and video chat or may be a feature of a Web conferencing service.
  • Basically, online chat is when you talk to someone over the Internet but it goes to them immediately unlike an email which reaches someone through their server to be opened later. Online chat can also include multiple people and can be used with video and voice features also.
Instant Messaging (IM)- Instant messaging is a form of communication over the Internet, that offers an instantaneous transmission of text-based messages from sender to receiver. In push mode between two or more people using personal computers or other devices, along with shared clients, instant messaging basically offers real-time direct written language-based online chat. The user's text is conveyed over a network, such as the Internet. It may address point-to-point communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers. More advanced instant messaging allows enhanced modes of communication, such as live voice or video calling, video chat and inclusion of hyperlinks to media.
  • Instant messaging is slightly different from online chatting in the sense that it offers an 'instant' sending and receiving ability. IM is used over networks, such as the Internet and can also include features such as video chat and voice recordings.

  • I constantly use Instant Messaging to talk to my friends and family. It is a much simpler form of communication for both parties. You can use IM on your phone, computer, tablets .etc. IM is much more efficient than emailing because the person gets the message instantly and can reply within minutes.
Advantages and Disadvantages
  • There are, of course, many advantages and disadvantages to IM and Online chatting compared to other forms on communication. Firstly, IM and Online Chatting are much more efficient and at times easier to use then say sending someone an email, as the reply to an email could be much slower. A disadvantage, however, would be that IM can also be used for sending viruses and hacking your computer if you don't know and trust the person on the other end of the chat.

How an email works ? Which protocols send the email ? What are the advantages and disadvantages of emailing ?

How to send and email !

An e-mail is quite simply a ´letter´ which you can send over the Internet. By writing an e-mail to someone you are writing out a message and sending it to them via the web. Also, not only can you send an e-mail to one person, but to groups of people who can either be added to the original e-mail or C.C´d in a previously sent or received e-mail. The process of sending an e-mail is simple, no matter which e-mailing site you send it from .ie. Gmail, Hotmail, AOL .etc. the process should be similar, if not the same. Firstly, you must sign into whichever emailing account you are choosing to use and then go to create a new email. After the page has reloaded and is on a clean email, you write out the message you wish to send. Afterwards you add the contact you are planning to send it to, multiple if you wish, and also, you can C.C people if you would like for them to read the email. Then all you have to do is click send, as simple as that. Emailing is also great for sending documents and/or photos; all you have to do is hit the attach button and you can attach whatever you want to the email for the other person to receive.

Which protocols send the email ?

The more technical side of emailing is the POP3 and IMAP protocols. These protocols are basically the processes which send your emails to one or multiple computers, or different servers. IMAP is much more beneficial because it sends the email to different servers rather than to one computer only: resulting in you having to re download all your emails on to separate devices.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Communicating via Email

Nowadays, most communication is done over the Internet or using other form of technology. There are of course, advantages and disadvantages to both. Primarily, it is easier and much more efficient to use some form of technology to communicate because most of today's population uses technology as their main source of communication: however, you cannot forget about disadvantages such as viruses and spamming, especially when it comes to email accounts. If you do no put the appropriate security settings on your email accounts then hackers could enter the account and retrieve personal details you bank details and address .etc. Either way, it is the persons own personal choice whether or not they choose to communicate using advanced forms of technology such as the Internet and emailing.
